My name is Steve Hartman, and I will once again be serving as the 5th and 6th grade boys’ basketball coach this upcoming season. As a former student and basketball player of Rockville Community Schools, I am very excited about returning as a coach and getting to work with the young men this season. As the season draws closer, there are some things all parents/guardians need to know:
1.) In order for a child to participate, I must have a Parent Contact Information Form returned to me at school. This allows me to know who to contact in case of an emergency and also informs me that the student has permission to play.
2.) Please be sure that all participants have a sports physical on file at the school prior to the first day of practice. No one will be permitted to participate until it has been turned in.
3.) There is no cost to participate on the team – all are encouraged to play; however, basketball shoes are required. The regular shoes students wear to school every day could potentially damage the gym floor, so I cannot permit them to play if they are in “street shoes.” Some financial assistance is available upon request.
4.) The nine-week grading period is drawing to a close, ending on October 17 (the Wednesday prior to Fall Break). Success in the classroom is vitally important, so students should complete everything necessary in order to receive strong academic scores. An “F” on this coming report card will deem student-athletes ineligible to play in games. They may practice with their classmates but will not be allowed to dress for games. They will only be offered permission to play in games following the next mid-term if they have received a “D” or better.
*All practices will begin right after school and last until about 4:30pm on Monday-Thursday and until 4:00pm on Fridays. Please make proper arrangements for all boys to be picked up promptly at that time. My schedule is very busy, so not waiting around for players to be picked up will help me out tremendously. I would appreciate it!
LET'S HAVE A GREAT SEASON! :)
